washington, d.c. the glitz and glamour, celebrities walking aroundour street. you could confuse this place for either l.a. or miami. we're in front of the portrait gallery where the party has been going on all day. today we were talking about young voters out on the red carpet. take a look. >> our time.org inaugural party was a star-studded event with names like will i am and common, all of them talking about the importance of the young american vote. >> talk a little bit about how important this event is tonight, to continue to motivate the youth to show up and vote. >> oh, man, it's very significant. we need our youth. our youth are the future. >> hopefully the ones who didn't vote saw the power of those that activated themselves to inspire them next time around, not to just vote for a president, but local politicians as well. >> young people, if you don't get out and vote, one day it's going to happen to our life. amen. it feels like one more person that would have voted, it would

are, what makes america great, i think about all of you, our men and women in uniform, our military spouses, and our amazing military kids. >> also performing at the concert, the cast of glee, usher and katie perry. >> they built up a wonderful community here that includes the biden grandchildren, so they've made fast friends. you know, i think they're grateful that they don't have to go through another transition. so they can just get on with their lives as normal, which believe me, they've already started doing. >> i think he's as hand some as he was, in fact i think he's more handsome, because when i look at his pictures when he was first inaugurated, he looked like a little boy. but he looked so young and innocent. now he looks like, you know, he's got some life under his

belt. >> mature. >> so i love the gray. >> that was an interview done for entertainment tonight. e.t. is in town for the big celebrations. earlier tonight, they sat down for that exclusive interview with first lady michelle obama and joe biden. we're told they'll have more of that interview on monday at 7:00. of course, we're going to have more of that interview tomorrow morning at 11:30 right here on 9:00. the national day of service kicked off the weekend of inaugural events in the nation's capital. today the president and first lady showed up to do their part at d.c. elementary school in northeast. the obamas painted a bookshelf and helped repair parts of the schools. there were thousands of volunteers in our area and across the country who also volunteered for community service to honor the late dr. martin luther king, jr. >> this is what we celebrate.

this inauguration, we're going to be -- it's a symbol of how our democracy works and how we peacefully transfer power. but it should also be an affirmation that we're all in this together. >> tomorrow the president takes the oath of office at noon to begin a second term. it will be a private ceremony at the white house. the public swearing in takes place on monday at the u.s. capital followed by the inaugural parade. it's not a sellout of four years ago. hotels are reporting 70% occupancy. still that means hundreds of thousands of visitors adding millions of dollars to the local economy. they're coming from all parts of the country for the celebrations this weekend. jennifer shows us the glitz and glamour behind the state inaugural fashion show. >> reporter: a little light and glamour of hollywood found its way to washington this weekend. >> well, this is old california. >> reporter: the golden state is on full display with around 700 proud californians here to meet, greet and celebrate one

of their strongest industry, fashion. >> california is the home of the red carpet, with hollywood and the glamour. >> reporter: this the fourth time the california state society has partnered with the fashion institute of design and merchandising for an inauguration and fashion show. it's an opportunity for californians on show off their state and pull out the red carpet. it's dotted with politicians and industry leaders having learned themselves how difficult it is to get there to success. >> i came when i was 25 from ohio to found a fashion college. started with 24 students and now we have 50,000 graduates. >> reporter: one of them is kevin hall, now mentor to the current students behind this show's design. >> the fashion institute has done a really great job of turning out talented students in shoe design, interior design, fashion design, merchandising and retail. so it really showcases the students and also showcases the

school as being a force to be reckoned with. >> reporter: a story behind every costume from the phantom to barbie, plenty of california pride shining through. >> our color represents, i believe, california a great deal. >> i'm proud to be here today and be representative of our state. >> reporter: marrying the world of fashion and politics on this weekend where each state shines as one part of a greater union. in washington, jennifer meckles, wusa 9. here's what you can look forward to tomorrow. at 8:00 vice-president joe biden will be sworn in at the naval observatory. then at 9:00, the president and vice-president will attend a wreath-laying ceremony at arlington national ceremony. at 11:55, president barack obama will be sworn in at the white house. and at 8:00 tomorrow night, the president and vice-president will attend a celebration at the national building museum. whether you're going to the inauguration or watching from home, we've got you covered.

>> when the inaugural parade gets underway on monday the air force band will be in place. ♪ ♪ >> the band has spent weeks making sure that john philip sousa marches are pitch perfect. musicians who make the band get a permanent appointment. only way new members can join in is if members leave or retires. a five year veteran that place saxophone, this is his secondinaugural parade. >> nothing is more patriotic an marching and playing sousa. as soon as the crowd here's it, you hear cheers. that's the american almost theme song. >> sergeant langford also

serves his community mentoring 11-year-old parson. the young drummer hopes to some day follow in langford's footsteps by one day also playing in the inaugural parade. several hundred thousand people are streaming into washington this weekend. and when they leave, they'll leave behind tons of trash and debris. workers are already out this weekend clearing away trash near the national mall and downtown area. inauguration organizers are hoping to make this year one of the greenest ever. materials will be recycled, including leftover food scraps and manure left behind by horses in the parade. officials are hoping for more than symbolism during president barack obama's second term. this week the president agreed to put the no taxation without representation tags back on the white house limos after refusing to do so in his firstterm. city leaders call it a small but important step. they want to remind all who see

the parade pavilion, d.c. residents do not have two voting senators and a voting representative on capitol hill. >> we hope it signals that this is a commitment to get franchisement for the people in the city. we'll continue to advocate for that and work with the president and the white house on the other issues. >> the license plates are symbolic. there's value in the symbolism, but there's substance. that's what we need to work on. >> president obama said in the statement that living in the city for the past four years, he has seen how unfair it is for working families in d.c. to work hard, raise children, and pay taxes without having a vote in congress. d.c.'s nonvote in congress horton has introduced another bill to give the district a statehood. it would make the district the 51st state. that measure hasn't come close to approval in the past several years. there is a separate bill that would give the district final say over its budget authority.

a gun accidentally went off at a gun show at the north carolina state fairgrounds. when it was over, three people had been injured. state officials say a 12-gauge shotgun somehow discharged while its owner unzipped a case at a security entrance. two bystanders were hit by shotgun pellets and taken to a hospital. a retired deputy sheriff suffered a slight hand injury. there was a similar accident in ohio. a gun dealer accidentally shot a man while checking out a handgun he had just bought. the victim suffered wounds to an arm and

of a wind chill factor. your weather headlines, cooler and breezy tomorrow. temperatures still above average for this time of year. it's when we get to inauguration day that temperatures will drop below where they should be. just a few flurries in the forecast. no real snow threat in there. 41 degrees leesburg and winchester. 44 martinsburg. 44 downtown d.c. the wind chill is a factor for a couple of locations such as in d.c. where it feels like 38. it feels like 36 in hagerstown. feels like 39 in martinsburg and 35 in leesburg with that wind chill. you can see that on satellite and radar we do have high clouds streaming in. a little bit of precipitation to our north but nothing that's going to affect our forecast. overnight tonight, just mostly clear and not too cool with lows between 29 and 35. lows staying above freezing for most of us with winds out of the south at 5-10 miles per hour. on sunday another pretty nice day. it will be breezy. 45 to 50 degrees with winds out

of the northwest at 15-20 miles per hour. it's when we get to inauguration day itself that we'll really have that drop in temperature. even up in new england it's going to be okay. in foxborough, 32-40 degrees for this time of year, massachusetts, it could be a lot colder. it's going to be dry. just partly cloudy as that game is getting underway. on inauguration day, temperatures only in the 30s, even in the afternoon. and we could see some flurries late in the day, but no accumulating snow, not even a dusting as that system moves on through. so that will sweep through on monday. a high of only 38. then sending the kids back out to the bus stop, a low of 18 degrees on both tuesday morning and wednesday morning. so keep in mind this is real bundle up weather here. 26 degrees on wednesday. and back up into the 30s on thursday. that will be an improvement if you can believe it. we're going to see temperatures well below normal for most of the week. >> good. it's no joke.

ravens patriots right here, wusa kickoff 6:30. live coverage from foxborough and game on overtime at 11:30. earl weaver passed away friday night, the former baltimore orioles died during a cruise associated with an orioles event. he started choking in his cabin after dinner. the cause of death not known. another baseball legend passing away. stan musial passed away today at age 92. one of the baseball's greatest hitters, seven batting titles, three time mvp, three time world series champion. he died at his home. it was quite a site wednesday night. moreland beat north carolina state. and students stormed the court like it was the 2002 national championship. turgeon quick to point out his offense not very good and they need a lot of work. sort of like this.
